Biden and Republicans look for a general debt-limit agreement

In order to avoid a disastrous default, President Joe Biden and congressional Republicans are attempting to reach an agreement on spending caps and energy restrictions during this crucial week of debt-ceiling negotiations.

The White House has not ruled out the annual spending limitations that Republicans assert must go along with any raise in the country's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling, despite the fact that the two sides did not appear to be near to a compromise.
